Curtain Call is a winning pavilion design for the 2024 BuildFest in Bethel, New York at the site of the 1969 Woodstock music festival. Aside from providing shade and shelter, the pavilion supports temporal uses such as lectures, gatherings, and performances. Designed by Jordan Young and Cait McCarthy of Office Office, the fabrication process utilizes a custom prototype machine, dubbed “Scribe 2.0”, to mark and measure construction details on dimensional lumber.

Office Office is a design research studio defamiliarizing everyday objects, materials, and spaces.

The shade structure references the original Woodstock stage and is supported by fifteen unique trusses which were fabricated off-site. Assembly took place on site over a period of 4 days. The robotic marking machine was transported to the site and used to finalize the drawn-on measurements needed for construction.

Scribe 2.0 reads g-code and works similar to a pen plotter, drawing lines, dashes, and letters on the 2x4s as they are fed through the machine.
